The Reason for the Season

As Christmas approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the busyness of the season—gifts, gatherings, and glowing decorations. But at the heart of it all is a much deeper truth: the reason for the season is Jesus.

Isaiah 9:6 reminds us of the incredible gift we celebrate:
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

In this season of joy, it’s also a time to reflect on the gifts God has given each of us. As Psalm 33:20-22 says:
“We put our hope in the LORD; he is our protector and our help. We are glad because of him; we trust in his holy name. May your constant love be with us, LORD, as we put our hope in you.”

Every good and perfect gift comes from above, including the talents and abilities we are blessed with. At Bear’s Plumbing Services, we are grateful for the knowledge and skill of our team. Our plumbers dedicate thousands of hours to training, becoming experts in their craft and using their God-given talents to serve and protect the health of our community.

This Christmas, we want to thank you for trusting us with your plumbing needs and to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. If you need us during the holidays, we’ll be here to help.

Call us at 281-350-2327 or fill out our contact form to schedule an appointment. Let us serve you with the same dedication that reflects the joy and hope of the season.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Bear’s Plumbing Services!

Winterize Your Pipes: Protect Your Home This Season

As the temperatures drop, it’s that time of year again—time to winterize your outdoor pipes. This simple task can save you money and prevent costly damage to your home. By taking a few preventive steps, you can avoid pipe breaks, water damage, and the stress of finding a plumber during extended freezing temperatures.

In areas like ours, homes are not typically built to withstand prolonged freezing conditions, especially if combined with power outages. If you were spared during the 2021 freeze, count yourself fortunate! However, it’s crucial to remain vigilant, particularly if your home has PVC, copper, or CPVC pipes, as these materials are vulnerable to cracking—and in some cases, shattering—when exposed to extreme cold.

Tips for Winterizing Your Pipes

  • Insulate Exposed Pipes: Use foam pipe covers or insulating tape on outdoor and unprotected pipes.
  • Disconnect and Drain Hoses: Remove garden hoses from faucets and drain any standing water.
  • Install Faucet Covers: Protect outdoor spigots with insulated covers to minimize heat loss.
  • Shut Off and Drain Water Lines: If you have outdoor plumbing lines that won’t be in use, turn off the water supply and drain the pipes.

What to Do if a Pipe Breaks

If the worst happens and a pipe breaks, call our team at Bear’s Plumbing Services. Our licensed plumbers are here to help with everything from repairs to whole-house repiping. To learn more about our repiping services, visit this page.

Stay Prepared for Winter Power Outages

Keep Your Home Comfortably Warm with Reliable Hot Water

As the colder months roll in, there’s nothing worse than stepping into a lukewarm shower or waiting forever for hot water. A properly functioning water heater is key to keeping your home cozy and your family happy during chilly temperatures. Here are a few simple checks to ensure your water heater is performing at its best:

  • Age Matters: If your water heater is over 8–10 years old, it might be time to consider an upgrade. Older units are less efficient and more prone to breakdowns, especially when the demand for hot water increases in colder weather.
  • Inspect for Leaks: Regularly check the valves and the pan for any signs of leaks. Even small drips can indicate a problem that could lead to bigger (and more expensive) issues.
  • Cold Weather Woes: During colder temperatures, a struggling water heater is more noticeable. If your water isn’t as hot as it used to be or takes too long to heat up, your system might be starting to fail.

At Bear’s Plumbing, we’re here to help. Not only can we inspect your water heater for issues, but we also offer maintenance schedules to keep your system running efficiently for years to come. Regular maintenance is the best way to maximize your investment and avoid unexpected cold showers.

Don’t wait for your water heater to go completely out. Call Bear’s Plumbing Services today at 281-350-2327 or visit our Water Heater Services page to learn more.

We’re proud to be your local, friendly, neighborhood plumbers—always happy to help keep your home comfortable and your water hot!

Buried Costs: Avoid Generator Installation Pitfalls with a Licensed Plumber

When it comes to installing a home generator, choosing a licensed and insured plumber is essential. Licensed plumbers have the skills and knowledge to ensure that all installation steps are done safely and according to code—especially critical when working with gas and electrical lines. We recently assisted a customer who was shocked to discover their gas and electrical lines were buried just 7 to 9 inches underground, far from the required depths. This lack of professionalism not only put the homeowner at risk but also led to unnecessary, costly rework.

To prevent issues like these, it’s essential that gas lines are buried at a minimum depth of 18 inches, while electrical lines should be 20 inches deep. These standards protect your property, ensure safety, and meet local and national building codes. When these codes aren’t followed, it risks both the homeowner and the technicians handling future repairs.

Additionally, before installing a generator, it’s crucial to mark underground utilities. This is important not only for major projects like adding a deck or installing a pool but also for seemingly simple tasks like putting in a flower bed. Utility lines might not be buried at expected depths, and one wrong move with a shovel could lead to an accidental gas or electric line breach.

Working with a licensed, insured plumber ensures all safety regulations are followed, and you have peace of mind knowing your generator setup is secure and compliant. At Bear’s Plumbing Services, we pride ourselves on getting the job done right the first time. Call us for quality work and reliable installation, every time. 281-350-2327

Our Price Match Guarantee on Licensed Plumbers’ Bids!

At Bear’s Plumbing, we know how important it is to find quality service at a fair price. With today’s economy and rising costs across nearly every industry, home maintenance and repairs can quickly add up. That’s why we’re rolling out our Price Match Guarantee on bids from licensed plumbers! You shouldn’t have to choose between the best value and trustworthy, professional work.

Why Price Match?

Our customers deserve the highest level of service from experienced, licensed, and insured plumbers without overpaying. Our price match policy allows you to rest assured that, when you choose Bear’s Plumbing, you’re receiving both competitive pricing and the attention to quality that you can only find with a local, family-run business. Here’s how it works and why it can benefit you:

Here’s How Our Price Match Works

  1. Send Us Your Bid – If you’ve received a quote from a licensed plumbing company, simply provide us with their bid for the same job.
  2. Get a Quality Assessment – We’ll evaluate the bid to ensure we’re matching on comparable work and equipment. Our focus is always on providing high-quality, lasting results.
  3. Enjoy Competitive Pricing with Added Value – Once confirmed, we’ll match their price, and you’ll enjoy all the benefits of working with a local, trusted plumbing company.

Why Choose a Local Licensed Plumbing Company?

Working with a local plumbing company provides benefits that go beyond just the job at hand. Here’s what sets Bear’s Plumbing apart:

  • Community Connection – We live, work, and play in the same neighborhoods as you. You might see us at the local grocery store or at church on Sunday. This connection inspires us to treat every customer like family, providing honest, respectful service that reflects our commitment to the community.
  • Accountability and Trust – When you choose a local, family-owned business, you’re working with a company that stands behind its work and reputation. We’re not answering to investors or a corporate board; we’re here to serve our neighbors with integrity.
  • Licensed and Insured for Your Safety – In Texas, plumbers are required to be licensed and insured for a reason: to protect you, the homeowner, from liability and risk. Working with a licensed company means you’re receiving work that adheres to state codes and standards.

Beware of Low Bids Without Licensing and Insurance

With costs rising, some homeowners are tempted to cut corners by hiring non-licensed individuals who offer low bids. While these prices might seem attractive, the risks can be significant. Without proper licensing and insurance, you risk incomplete work, property damage, or even liability in case of an accident on your property. Our Price Match Guarantee only applies to bids from licensed plumbers, ensuring you get the best deal with the protection you deserve.

Our Commitment to Quality and Service

At Bear’s Plumbing, we’re committed to providing exceptional service, honest pricing, and quality workmanship on every project. If you have questions about our Price Match Guarantee or want to learn more about how our licensed team can help, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to provide trusted service that you can rely on, backed by a price that respects your budget.

Water Leaks Caused by Rodents: How Attic Poison May Lead to Costly Damage

When it comes to rodent control, one common solution many homeowners rely on is placing poison in attics to keep pesky critters at bay. But did you know that using poison may indirectly cause water damage in your home? Here’s how it happens: as rodents consume poison, their need for water increases, and if they can’t find a nearby source, they’ll chew through plumbing pipes to get it. This behavior can lead to severe water leaks, hidden damage, and potentially high repair costs.

Why Poison in the Attic Can Backfire

Rodents, particularly rats and mice, are naturally inclined to gnaw on almost anything in their path, and plumbing pipes are no exception. When poisoned, these creatures experience increased thirst as their bodies attempt to process the toxins. Since attics often lack water sources, they’ll chew through plastic or even metal pipes to find the hydration they desperately need. This behavior not only compromises your plumbing system but can also cause water to leak into walls, ceilings, and floors, potentially leading to mold, mildew, and structural damage.

Signs of Rodent-Related Plumbing Damage

If you’ve recently used rodent poison in your attic or other parts of your home, keep an eye out for these signs that rodents may have compromised your plumbing:

  1. Water Stains – Look for wet spots or stains on ceilings or walls below your attic.
  2. Low Water Pressure – Damaged pipes can reduce water pressure in your home.
  3. Unusual Sounds – Persistent dripping, hissing, or scratching sounds could indicate a leak or gnawing rodents.
  4. Mold or Mildew Odors – Leaks create the perfect environment for mold, which gives off a strong, musty odor.

Preventing Rodent Damage to Plumbing

Here are a few steps to help protect your plumbing while managing a rodent problem:

  • Consider Alternatives to Poison: Traps or ultrasonic deterrents can help control rodents without increasing their thirst.
  • Seal Entry Points: Minimize rodent access by sealing any small gaps or openings around your attic and other areas.
  • Use Rodent-Proof Pipes: For vulnerable areas, such as attics and crawl spaces, use metal or other rodent-resistant pipe materials.

What to Do if You Suspect a Leak

If you notice any of the signs mentioned or suspect a rodent-induced leak, it’s essential to call a licensed plumber to assess the damage and make necessary repairs. At Bear’s Plumbing, we offer comprehensive leak detection and repair services to get your home back in shape.

Final Thoughts

While rodent control is necessary, poison may unintentionally increase your risk of water leaks. Preventative measures, combined with alternative rodent control options, can help protect your plumbing system and reduce the need for costly repairs. And if you’re ever in doubt, our team at Bear’s Plumbing is here to help with reliable, professional plumbing solutions.

Is your Kitchen Faucet Slowing Down? Here’s What to Check

Have you noticed your kitchen faucet’s water pressure gradually slowing down? It might not be just a clog—it could be trash and debris building up inside the faucet. Over time, small particles can accumulate and cause pressure issues, and it’s not just limited to your kitchen faucet. The same problem can affect your bathroom sinks, showers, and tub faucets.

If you’ve seen flakes of rust in your water, it could be a sign that your water lines are starting to deteriorate. Older pipes, especially if they’re not made of PEX, can corrode and cause all sorts of problems throughout your home’s plumbing system.

When to Call Bear’s Plumbing

If you’re experiencing low pressure, rust flakes, or aging pipes, it may be time to consider a whole-house repipe. At Bear’s Plumbing, we specialize in water line replacements and can help you upgrade to durable, freeze-resistant PEX piping—especially important with the next winter freeze always around the corner.

Pay attention to the warning signs and aging systems in your home’s plumbing. Don’t wait until a small issue becomes a bear of a problem! Contact Bear’s Plumbing today for expert help with repiping, and keep your home’s water flowing smoothly.
